Irish pro athlete Robbie Wade raced at Ironman 70.3 at the weekend alongside some of the sports biggest superstars including Jan Frodeno, Lionel Sanders and Tim Reed and acquitted himself very well.

The race was being touted as being the Jan and Lionel show but Frodeno had dofferent plans and ran riot all day leading from the start and not even close to being troubled by any other athlete all day.

Robbie who finished 12th overall out of a stacked men’s field was less than a minute down on the swim on Sanders who led the second pack out of the water. He then went on to ride a 2:15:54 averaging just under 40kph and backed that up with a solid 1:20:28 half marathon.


Irish age group athlete Ciaran Byrne racing in the 45-49 age group also had a storming day and finished on the third step of the podium with a solid all round performance topped off with a very strong run.
