It’s getting to be a regular occurrence that I’m adding to the list of Irish athletes who have qualified for Kona this year. This week we not only have another qualifier but we had an Irish age group champion at Ironman Maastricht. Michael Carroll racing in the 65-69 age group stood on the top step of the Podium on Monday and took home the age group trophy.

Kona Secrets book available
Kona Secrets: Lessons learned from over 50 Kona Qualifications.
Knowledge doesn’t produce results, action does. Just knowing how to do something doesn’t guarantee success, especially something as difficult as qualifying for Kona; you have to put in the hours. In this book I share some of the lessons I learnt between being a back-of-the-pack beginner to qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
Michael Carroll racing in the 65-69 age group exited the water with more than a 30 minute deficit but went on to post a division fastest bike split of 5:53 on what is a tough bike course. The bike route takes in a lot of the Amstel Gold professional bike race including some of the more famous climbs.
Michael then went on to run an age group fastest marathon split with a 4:32:24
I’m not connected to Michael on the Facebook or Twitter so don’t have a picture of him to add to his profile so if you know him maybe put him in touch with me at email@example.com or if you’re reading yourself Michael drop me a mail.
I’ve added Michael to our growing list of 2017 Kona qualifiers which you can check out here
